"It’s hard not to picture The Grateful Dead as the graven image of the J Burn experience—Burnt Blue was recorded at Bob Weir’s storied TRI Studios, after all—but it may be more accurate to describe J Burn as a folksy, San Francisco version of Lynyrd Skynyrd. In Burnt Blue, Burn has shed the psychedelic tones and instead focused his lyrics on bucolic imagery and earthly imaginings of the quotidian. He sings of trains, yesterdays and dusty trails in what could be construed as a hippie riff on the Southern experience." -MacEagon Voyce - AXS Contributor - Sep 24, 2015

lyrics

(First Verse)
Way back in, eighty seven
We were tripping on down, that open road
Not a worry between us, as we made our way together
We were just cursing anyway, that wind did blow

(Chorus)
Back then freedom, wasn’t just a dream
We were livin simple and happy, well within our means
The road seemed endless. Right beneath our feet
With a love in our hearts, an a song shared, by just you an me

(Second Verse)
But you know some times, roads head off in different ways
Even when the weathers sweet, an the sun shines all them days
Somehow our path divided, to accomplish our own goals
We headed out, our own ways never again, to share that same road

(Chorus)
Back then freedom, it wasn’t just a dream
We were livin simple and happy, well within our means
The road seemed endless. Right beneath our feet
With a love in our hearts, an a song shared, by just you an me

(Third Verse)
You know now almost thirty years have, rolled on bye
Quick like rain drops evaporating, under sunny skies
Sometimes I catch myself wondering, how it might have been
If we never parted and we were, still walking hand and hand

(Chorus)
Back then freedom, it wasn’t just a dream
We were livin simple and happy, well within our means
The road seemed endless. Right beneath our feet
With a love in our hearts, an a song shared, by just you an me

(Out)
With a love in our hearts, an a song shared, by just you an me
